The Dance Department at New Hall School offers a wide range of options for students in the Nursery, Preparatory and Senior Divisions. Based in dedicated studios in the Walkfares Performing Arts Centre, the Dance Department is one of the creative hubs of the School.
We offer ISTD examination classes in Modern, Tap, Jazz and Cecchetti Ballet. Other dance styles such as Contemporary, Lyrical, Street Dance, Acro and Musical Theatre are offered to all students as part of the New Hall Co-Curriculum. We also offer an all-boys Street dance class and Contemporary coaching lesson.
New Hall School is proud to host the ISTD Janet Cram regional semi-finals and regular ISTD course training sessions.
Dance classes take place during lunchtime and afterschool clubs. On Saturday, we run a full dance timetable to include all dance examination classes.
Students have the opportunity to study dance AS and A level from year 11 and above. This is run afterschool. We pride ourselves on achieving 100% A grade in this subject for the past 7 years.
Pupils in early years will all experience a dance class within their Curriculum lessons and Senior Division students will have the option of dance as part of their games curriculum lessons from Year 9 and above.
The New Hall Dance Festival Team regularly compete at various dance festivals throughout the year and have had the opportunity of performing in a number of venues across the UK and internationally including the Royal Albert Hall, Sadler Wells Theatre, The Savoy, London Excel Centre and at Disneyland Paris. This group has over 75 dancers starting as young as 5 years old to 18 years old.
Members of the New Hall Dance Festival team have performed in West End productions such as ‘School of Rock’, ‘Matilda’, ‘Joseph ’,‘ Annie’ ‘The Little Princess’, ‘Nativity the Musical’ and ‘The Sound of Music Uk tour’. Our classical dancers have also had the opportunity to train with The Royal Ballet School, English Youth Ballet Company and The London Children’s Ballet Company.
The dance department also runs regular Theatre trips and west end workshops. Our most recent workshop is a 42nd Street Tap workshop with Graeme Henderson.
The Dance Department is led by Head of Dance, Mrs Sarah Molina who has taught at New Hall for 10 years.
