Sport is a key part of School life for all at New Hall.  We are dedicated to providing the very best standards of coaching and teaching across the age ranges, enabling our pupils to develop impressive skills. We recognise that Physical Education is an area of physical, mental and social development, building an awareness of health and fitness, developing self-esteem and a sense of fair play, and encouraging the enjoyment of collective activity and achievement.

All pupils have access to our outstanding sporting facilities throughout the year.  These include playing fields, a running track, 2 floodlit Astroturf pitches, a 3G rugby pitch, a sports hall with facilities for a variety of sports, an indoor heated swimming pool, and a hard court area for tennis and netball.

Nursery & Pre-Prep

In the Nursery, pupils are taught by specialist PE teachers twice a week, aiming to ensure that all have positive experiences from the earliest opportunity.  In the Pre-Prep Division, each week pupils learn fundamental skills using the National Curriculum programme of study across different activities.  Team play and physical literacy are focussed upon in order to prepare pupils for more formal sporting activities.  Pupils experience their first competitive opportunities against local opposition in sports including cross-country running and gymnastics.

Prep School Divisions

In the Prep School Divisions, pupils are taught PE and Games each week.  There is a progression of knowledge and skills, and the potential in every pupil is realised through a greater understanding of personal performance.  Our main School sports are rugby, hockey, netball and cricket, and these are supplemented with coaching in tennis, swimming and cross-country running.  Pupils compete in fixtures regularly, and New Hall has an excellent record in inter-school competitions, both locally and further afield.

Sporting co-curricular clubs enhance our excellent provision yet further, offering training sessions in our main sports, and opportunities to develop skills in other sports such as golf and table tennis.

Sports Day

As well nurturing sporting talent and competitive team sports, New Hall also promotes a sport-for-all attitude, actively including those pupils who consider themselves to be less athletic and ensuring that they also have the opportunity to represent the School and develop their potential.  All pupils take part in Sports Day, competing for their School House teams.  The PE Department also makes a contribution to the local sporting community, with many sporting links with local sports teams and schools in the local area.
