Year 11 Celebration

Date Posted: Tuesday 10 May 2022

Yesterday evening, our Year 11 students had their Commissioning ceremony and celebration ahead of their GCSE study leave. Parents, students and teachers came together to celebrate the past five years that the students have spent together. Each of our eight Year 11 tutor groups received a blessing from Father Martin, our Resident Chaplain, and they were gifted a Holding Cross made of olive trees from the Holy Land and a New Hall engraved pen so that they can always remember their time at our School.

The celebration began with a warm welcome from Mrs Jeffrey, then Mr Kerr and Mrs Norman gave an overview of the past year and commended the students on their resilience through the pandemic. Phoebe and Haris gave readings, then students came up to the altar to recite Bidding Prayers and to reflect on their time in Year 11. Our talented musicians Edward, Ida and Francis played musical interludes, finishing the wonderful celebration with ‘Shine, Jesus, Shine’, a popular hymn among the students and staff.

After the celebration in the Chapel, the students and their families gathered in our North Gallery for food and drinks. There, they reminisced about the start of Year 7 not so long ago and celebrated what they have achieved since.
