New Hall raises £1,000 with Macmillan Coffee Morning

Date Posted: Tuesday 08 January 2019

On Friday 28 September, New Hall School, Chelmsford, held its annual Macmillan Coffee Morning, with parents, staff and students taking advantage of a truly wonderful selection of baked goods, donated by members of the school community.

The total raised by the end of the morning was a fantastic £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Katherine Jeffrey, Principal, said: “This year we raised over £1,000 for Macmillan. I am incredibly proud of all our students for this amazing achievement. Charitable giving is an important part of our Catholic ethos at New Hall and over the years the school has run numerous fun events to raise funds for Macmillan”.

This year, another element of excitement was added to the proceedings, with the ‘Great New Hall Bake Off’ held the day before the coffee morning. Students were encouraged to be creative in entering the Bake Off, with the bakes to be sold at the next day’s Coffee Morning. The judging panel was incredibly impressed by the huge efforts made by all the students and staff members in producing their entries and they had some very difficult decisions to make.

The winning entries were: Master Baker/s: The Malteser Spill, by Fraser M and Thomas A (Year 10); Best Appearance: The ‘perfect’ cupcake, by Annabel S (Year 11); Best Taste: Rocky Road Overload, by Emily B and Izzy H (Year 7); Show-stopping Innovation: Macmillan Rainbow Cake, by Amira A and Ava B (Year 7); and Happiness Cake, by Julia M (Year 7).
