New Hall Achieves School Games Platinum Status

Date Posted: Monday 17 July 2023

New Hall School is delighted to announce the achievement of the prestigious School Games ‘Platinum’ Mark Award for the 2022/2023 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

This accompanies other sporting successes this year, including gaining the ‘Most Outstanding Dance School’ accolade at Starz UK in April 2023, and coming in third place in the European Skiing Championships, having beaten Swiss schools and being named the best British school for skiing the second year in a row.

With an impressive number of students competing in local inter-school competitions this year – from our U14 Rugby players coming in second out of 40 schools in the Essex School Sevens, where New Hall hosted, to our 1st VII Netball team winning the bronze medal in the World School Games Netball Cup – we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our School has been rewarded this year.

A special thanks and mention is given to New Hall PE Teacher, Mr Tom Johnson, who played a critical role in achieving this status and recognition, as he drove this programme over the last 5 years.  New Hall had to achieve a gold level status for 4 consecutive years before applying for platinum status.

New Hall’s Director of Sport, Mr Jason Bigara, had this to say about the achievement: “I am extremely proud of the work that our staff and students have achieved over the last 5 years.  There are only 5% of schools within the UK that have a platinum status. Leading an active lifestyle is something that we are instilling into our students on a daily basis, and achieving this status is proof that we are on the right track.”
