Our Pre-school children have been getting active with Little Scrummers, a company specialising in Tag Rugby themed classes. Their enthusiasm for these weekly 60-minute Physical Education sessions is infectious!

Exciting and fun as well as educational, all Little Scrummers activities are non-contact and are helping the children to develop age-specific skills such as balance and co-ordination. Classes follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) guide to working with this age group, conducted by qualified RFU coaches.

Each class involves warm-up games and introduces skills such as ball passing and how to play tag rugby. The children are learning gross and fine motor skills not taught in other sports as well as how to follow instructions and how to wait their turn.

Mrs Lynne Baines, Nursery Manager, said: “I joined in with the very first class and was impressed at how well the children took to it, fully engaging with the coach. We are delighted with how much they have already learned.”

Neil Corley of Little Scrummers, commented: “All of the children are doing extremely well. Each of them, throughout each session, is adapting to a new environment of learning and remembering the key focus words of the week. We are very impressed with their progress.”
