Biology Week 2021

Date Posted: Thursday 14 October 2021

Biology Week was in full swing at the start of October and the students have had a chance to get involved in many exciting activities. Monday saw the Years 7-9 students playing detectives by exploring what owls had eaten by dissecting their owl pellets. They found skulls, bones and other body parts! Tuesday was rat dissection day for students in Years 10-13, as well as an opportunity for an inter-House quiz, with Bakhita House getting first prize.

We were lucky enough to have Miss Clarke bring in some of her exotic animal species collection, which included a giant African Snail, a hissing cockroach and a giant tarantula. The students learned about these amazing animals and were able to hold them. That evening, the Biology Society was lucky enough to hear from Dr Taylor and her journey through her medical career and her specialism of fertility medicine.

Last but not least, we ran the annual Bio-Bodies Bake Off. It was a very tight competition resulting in joint winners, the Brain Cake (Charlotte, Year 11) and Heart Cake (Isabel, Year 7).
