St Cecilia’s Day Concert

Date Posted: Friday 26 November 2021

We celebrated the Feast Day of St Cecilia, Patron Saint for Music and Musicians, with our annual Michaelmas Term concert in the Chapel. We were pleased to welcome a large audience of parents, family, friends and staff, in addition to members of the governing body. The evening included performances from the Preparatory Division Choir, Training Orchestra, String Ensemble, Senior Orchestra and from Howard (Year 13) playing the organ. We enjoyed a wide range of repertoire from classical and traditional, to modern and contemporary. The Preparatory Division Choir’s performance of “Mambo Italiano” was particularly enjoyable, with excellent musicianship and ensemble skills demonstrated by the Training Orchestra and String Ensemble, in addition to the drama and musical intensity achieved by the Senior Orchestra in their music by Khachaturian and Berlioz. Particular note should be paid to Howard Lee who appeared as a soloist performing movements from Boëllmann’s Suite Gothique, including its fiendishly difficult Toccata. We also congratulated Max (Year 9) who has been appointed Senior Orchestra leader for the remainder of the academic year. Thank you to all students who diligently prepared music and performed professionally during the concert. Thanks also go to all staff who were involved in the careful preparation and coordination of the evening.
