New Hall Choir Trip to Rome

During Lent half term, 28 students from the New Hall Senior Choir went on a trip to Rome. The students explored the historic cobbled streets and took the opportunity to sing whenever it arose, with locals even joining in for a perambulatory rendition of Locus iste.

The Choir was able to visit and sing at some of the most splendid places of worship in the world. For their first performance, the students sang during Mass at the Basilica San Giovanni in Laterno, followed by an hour-long concert in the Pantheon. The performance was enjoyed by over one hundred people and was an incredibly moving experience for all.

A highlight of the trip was performing on the main altar in St Peter’s Basilica, which is arguably the most famous cathedral in the world. Dr Morgan-Williams, Director of Music, described the experience as “a special moment to top all special moments; something to tell the grandchildren about and something to be never forgotten”.

Katherine Jeffrey, Principal of New Hall, also joined the trip and was delighted to spend time with the Choir in Rome, “it was wonderful to hear them sing in those amazing venues and to share in their enthusiasm for gelati!” She continued, “At New Hall, we aim to provide the best start in life for our students through a rounded education that includes an ambitious and varied programme of educational visits. Recent international visits include a Politics trip to Washington DC and New York, the Cricket Tour to South Africa and a Geography trip to China”.

Alongside a successful academic programme, New Hall School provides excellent facilities and training for budding sports stars and fantastic music and performing arts provision.  The Catholic boarding and day school for students aged 1-18 has a distinctive ‘diamond model structure’ and a strong ethos of pastoral care, which supports students in their endeavours, allowing them to achieve success in a wide variety of fields.
