Support from tutors and subject specialists throughout a structured HE preparation programme ensures that New Hall students apply to courses best suited to their individual strengths and aspirations and nearly all are placed in their first choice institution. New Hall students go on to study at a wide range of universities including Oxbridge and the Russell Group, prestigious Art Foundation courses, as well a variety of universities overseas.
Omega ProgrammeOmega Programme
New Hall encourages able students to apply for Oxford or Cambridge universities. The school has a good track record of students winning Oxbridge places in a wide range of subjects, including sciences, arts, humanities and languages.
The Oxbridge programme, OMEGA, fits with the school’s Most Able and Talented provision. Students are invited to lectures, including presentations by Admissions Officers from both universities. Past Omega Lectures have included: ‘Identity Crises Then and Now: the Greeks in Afghanistan’ and ‘How to Sound Clever: the 500 words you need to know’.
Opportunities to visit both universities are made available and attendance at College and Department Open Days is encouraged. Students are given advice regarding the range of courses available, entry requirements and ways in which to make their applications as attractive as possible to Admissions Tutors.
An emphasis is placed on meeting the academic requirements demanded by Oxbridge Colleges so that students achieve the straight A*/A grades needed at GSCE and AS Level. Weekly interdisciplinary sessions are held to develop thinking and analytical skills, in conjunction with subject specific support. These sessions, designed to enhance oral debating skills that are so crucial to Oxbridge interviews, challenge students to address topics with which they are unfamiliar and demand a swift, logical response to questions posed.
