New Hall School hosts first Chapel wedding for over 200 years

Date Posted: Friday 04 January 2019

Since 1799, the school has resided in the former Beaulieu Palace, which once belonged to Henry VIII. The building was licensed for Catholic marriages earlier this year, much to the delight of former student and Head Girl, Miss Alexandra Grainger, who had been searching for the perfect location for her marriage to Mr Daniel Meyer.

Miss Grainger will be the first bride at New Hall for over 200 years and is relishing the opportunity to celebrate her special day in the school where she studied from the ages of 11 – 18, before studying English at the University of Exeter. Miss Grainger said: “I really wanted to keep that New Hall link, I am very pleased to be able to get married at the school where I grew up and to celebrate our wedding in the beautiful chapel there.”

Katherine Jeffrey, Principal, said “The New Hall Chapel is part of the magnificent Tudor palace of Beaulieu. The sheer scale, beauty and history of our grounds will provide a marvellous and memorable venue for Alex’s special day. It is lovely to welcome former students and their families back to New Hall, as they celebrate important milestones and achievements in their lives beyond the school. We wish Alex and her partner Daniel every good fortune and happiness as they embark upon this new chapter of their lives together.”

New Hall School, a boarding and day school for girls and boys aged 3-18 years, has occupied the magnificent Tudor palace of Beaulieu since 1799. The estate was acquired by King Henry VIII in 1517, at which time the building was greatly enlarged and enhanced. One of the most impressive interiors is the chapel, with Henry VIII’s coat of arms over the main entrance.
