On 27 May, 59 Year 8 students and 6 teachers set off on their trip to the Château de Chantereine in Crieil near Dieppe. The Year 8 students visited a French aquarium in Boulogne sur Mer before their arrival at the Château. Once at the Château they had the opportunity to try fencing or archery. On Saturday, our intrepid linguists visited Dieppe market and stopped at a local restaurant to sample a few crêpes. In the afternoon the students learnt, in French, the art of Neufchâtel cheese making and discovered all the secrets of cider making in the delightful orchard of La Cidrerie de Crieil. After a French lesson, the students were ready to sample more sporting activities. On Sunday, they attended Mass at the Tréport Church where they impressed the French congregation with their good behaviour. The group then continued their excursion to Rouen, famous for its cathedral which was painted 20 times by Monet and for turning Joan of Arc into a martyr. The hot weather was on their side and the students all enjoyed a very French evening meal with, you will have guessed, snails on the menu! On the final day, the students rose to beautiful weather for a team game in front of the Château and a last stop at the Supermarché d’Eu before heading back to New Hall. Bravo les élèves de Year 8 et bonne continuation en français!
