Year 3 classes enjoyed an Ancient Greece day on Tuesday as part of their ‘Heroes and Heroines’ theme for this term. The day was designed to help them better understand and experience a little of what life was like for the Ancient Greeks through participation in a variety of interactive activities. In the morning, children were able to choose from eight different workshops that included creating clay pots, making wax tablets and producing oil from olives to burn in a lamp.
A celebratory feast was held in the afternoon, with children sampling food that would have been eaten by the Greeks, such as feta cheese, olives, honey cake and dates. Entertainment was provided by groups of children who had rehearsed dance, music, drama and Greek warrior manoeuvres. We even had our own slaves to serve us! Thank you to all the parents who had worked hard to make or source costumes for the children to wear, and a particular thanks to the parents who kindly gave up their time to assist in the day’s activities.
