Year 10 successes in the Interpretation of Text Competition

On Wednesday 10 February, the English department hosted the Year 10 Interpretation of Text competition. The evening was a great success thanks to the wonderful performances by the 30 competitors who presented a range of poems, varying from Shakespeare to the UK’s current poet laureate, Carol Ann Duffy.

As there were so many outstanding interpretations, the judges had a difficult task when choosing the winners; so difficult in fact that they even had to create an ‘honourable mention’ category so that there would be 4 winners overall.

Siobhan Lewis won first place for her dramatic reading of Babysitting by Gillian Clarke, but she was closely followed by Grace Fairbairn’s interpretation of Anne Hathaway and Carl Alabi’s presentation of Love After Love. Andy Cheng received the honourable mention for his interpretation of Havisham.

The English staff would like to thank all of the participants and their families for their support both during the weeks of preparation before the competition and on the evening.
