New Hall hosted the 5th annual U12 Sevens Festival on 5 March. Schools from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Glamorgan, Hertfordshire, Kent, Northamptonshire and Suffolk took part in the festival. Several local rugby clubs were also invited to compete at the festival which provided a good standard of play for the matches. After 64 group matches, the top 2 teams progressed through to the main cup competition. The teams in 3rd and 4th place progressed through to the plate competition and the remaining teams were entered into the bowl competition which was a knock out. In the cup semi-finals Bro Morgannwg School, Wales, won against St Columba’s College, Hertfordshire, and Saffron Walden County High School won against Northampton School for Boys. Another nail biting match ended with Northampton scoring a try in the dying minutes. In the final, Saffron Walden County High School won against Bro Morgannwg School 42-10. In the bowl final Campion School, Essex beat Colchester Royal Grammar School 40-21. Lincroft School, Bedfordshire, beat The Perse School, Cambridge, to win the plate competition 45-12. Thank you to all of the schools which took part in the festival, it was a fantastic day which was enjoyed by all.
