New Hall had another successful weekend at the school championships, which were held on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 January at Addington Manor.
The mini show jumping competition was the first class of the weekend. The team consisted of: Sophie Nixon (Year 9); Stephanie Wilson (Year 7); Scott Taylor (Year 6); Lucy Salter (Year 9). All of the riders rode fantastic rounds and the team ended on a score of 0. New Hall was the only school to finish on a score of 0 penalties, which meant that we were the top school going through into the finals. Despite the technical course they faced in the final, the team finished on 0 penalties again, securing a win for the team.
The open show jumping competition was the second class on Saturday. After securing a place in the final, Madeleine Taylor (Year 9) rode an outstanding round to win the class.
Sunday began with the mini jumping with style event and New Hall entered a team comprising Joanna Thorogood (Year 7), Sophie Nixon (Year 9), Stephanie Wilson (Year 7) and Rosie Oxlade (Year 8). Despite riding well, the course was long and difficult and team were not able to secure a placing.
The novice show jumping class followed, the team comprised Lucy Salter, Gabriella Oxlade (Year 10), Scott Taylor and Joanna Thorogood. The team demonstrated some excellent riding in the first round; however, there were a few poles that came down in the rounds which forfeited the team’s place in the final. Despite some great rounds, the intermediate team which included Rosie and Gabriella Oxlade and Madeleine Taylor incurred some penalties occurred and did not qualify for the finals.
Lucy Salter represented New Hall in the novice jumping with style class and finished in 7th place, an excellent achievement.
