Green Week at the Preparatory School

Pupils at New Hall Preparatory School have had an eventful week full of activities for their very own Green Week kindly organised by Mrs Pope.

The week began with a talk from Mark Dowd, Director of Operation Noah (a Christian organisation which works to prevent climate change), who came in to talk to the children about being Eco aware. On Thursday and Friday, the school was visited by the local authority recycling bus, which came in to work with two classes.

In class, the pupils have been learning about the different ways that they can help to look after our environment including ways to recycle, insulate our homes, limit CO2 emissions and how to make best use of wind turbines. Year 4 put their artistic talents to good use by using recycled materials to make a collage to advertise ways in which we can care for our world. Year 3 took part in some investigative work, collecting data to see who in New Hall has water butts, a composter or grows their own fruit and vegetables at home.

The whole school community has been collecting unwanted clothes, mobile phones and printer cartridges which will go towards supporting the RNIB. Pupils have been encouraged to share lifts to school or walk and cycle in an attempt to cut down CO2 emissions. A fashion design competition has been organised where pupils can design an Eco friendly outfit; the winning design will be modelled at a Fashion Show to be held next month.

The pupils will be celebrating their work on Friday by having a "Dress in Green" Day.
