Gosling Cup Results

Seven New Hall pupils recently competed for their pony clubs at the 2010 Gosling Cup, including two students joining the school in September. The girls achieved some fantastic results and our congratulations go to Annabel Gardiner (Year 9), Lucy Salter (Year 9), Joanna Thorogood (Year 7), Pippa O’Riley (Year 9), Rosie Oxlade (Year 8), Gabriella Oxlade (Year 10) and Madeleine Taylor (Year 10)

The Gosling Cup, a true test of horse and rider, was the brainchild of Mrs M S Gosling, the then District Commissioner of the East Essex Hunt Pony Club, in 1945 to improve the standards of horse riding within the Pony Club in the early years after the war. The competition is primarily a team competition which involves 5 separate stages ; tack and turnout, an individual ride (today’s dressage), a team ride, a handy hunter (a 3ft cross country course) followed by showjumping.

The Gosling Cup is the highlight of the Pony Club calendar in this region, involving Pony Clubs from Essex, Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. To have so many students competing at this demanding competition was incredible.

This year, the event was organised by Essex Hunt North Pony Club and held at Berwick Farm, Nr Ongar. Superb organisation ensured a fantastic day for all and New Hall was delighted to be amongst the list of sponsors of the event.
