First A* for New Hall A Level Student
The top A* grade is available to A Level candidates for the first time this year. Deputy Head Boy, Martin Jonak, has this week secured the grade for his science & engineering Extended Project, for which he built a ‘Dobsonian’ telescope. Martin is the first New Hall student to be awarded an A* for an A Level qualification. The Extended Project is highly rated by top universities and the Director of Admissions at Cambridge recently said that he would like to see more schools offering the qualification. Other Year 13 students also did interesting research, including Robert Wood, who built a remote-controlled hovercraft, Diya Jatta, who made a Senegambian dress, Harriet Bradford, who trained a horse from unbroken to dressage standard and Olivia Wakeman, who investigated the psychological effects of adoption.
