Choir Tour to Venice and Verona

The choir spent an amazing week in Italy during half term, singing in some of the world’s most stunning churches. The 6-day tour, which for the first time in New Hall’s 367-year history included boys and broken male voices, included sight-seeing and cultural visits, as well as the opportunity to sing every day.

Major highlights included singing Mass at the Basilica di San Marco, at the very heart of Venice, and in the church of San Nicolo dei Mendicoli, one of the oldest churches in Venice, a particular favourite as students from New Hall have now sung there 4 times in the last 20 years.

The choir also sang Masses at The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, the largest church in Venice, and Il Redentore, built by Palladio after the great plague in Venice. Further to a wonderful welcome by the Capuchin Friars at Il Redentore, the choir has been invited back to sing at the international Redentore festival, which takes place in July 2011. This is the biggest festival in the Venetian calendar and it is an honour to have been invited to sing on such a prestigious occasion.
