Drama

The Drama Department is committed to offering a variety of extra-curricular activities and clubs to extend the curriculum beyond that offered in timetabled sessions. There may be opportunities to reinforce curriculum work or to undertake work not normally covered within the routine timetable. Student-led workshops are offered to Years 7 and 8. These clubs are run by GCSE Drama students and are specifically catered to the needs and wishes of the participants. They may wish to develop their skills through the use of workshop games, to devise an original piece of theatre or to present a scripted play to an audience. The sessions are supervised by a specialist teacher.

A range of workshops are available to students in Year 9 and above: performance, directing, technical and lyric and song-writing. These workshops are available at specific times during the year and vary according to student demand. We also encourage students to suggest any additional extra-curricular activities that they would like us to offer.

The annual Whole School Production allows students of all ages and abilities to combine their skills in drama, music and dance in the presentation a full-length production to a live audience. Students are auditioned for the principal roles and the minor parts are played by members of the chorus. It is of utmost importance to us that every student who wishes to participate is given the opportunity. Recent productions have also seen stunning performances from members of staff!

An annual showcase of both curricular and extra-curricular work takes place in the Summer Term. This is an opportunity for the students to perform in front of a larger audience. Parents are warmly invited to view any practical assessment or performance that may be undertaken during the academic year.
