NHVS

Founded in 1978, the New Hall Voluntary Service has been providing help and support to vulnerable members of our local community for over 25 years.
Working alongside adult volunteers and members of Year 12 who act as leaders, the students give up their free time once a week to help run ten Action Groups.
The elderly, young children and adults with specific learning difficulties are among the many people who benefit from the work of the NHVS both here and at venues throughout Chelmsford.
A week's holiday for very disadvantaged children is incorporated annually into the scheme. Students, helped by adults including past students, devote time and energy in their summer holidays to give 20-30 children from the London boroughs a residential week of fun at New Hall.
NHVS through its work remains at the heart of our community just as it did all those years ago.
Mission Statement
We strive in the New Hall Voluntary Service to build a network of mutual love and support. Being a Christian Community, this is modelled on the Gospel of Christ, who sought out and served those in need.
Students , staff, parents, and friends reach out to those who are vulnerable in the local community.
Opening of the NHVS centre in the Barn
On Foundation Day (8.10.07), we officially opened the NHVS centre in the Chaplaincy, at the Barn. We were delighted to welcome so many members of the Religious Community, NHVS adult volunteers and staff to this special occasion.
Our Year 12 NHVS Prefects, Danielle Kirkham, Marianna Tomassi and Zahra Valji, represented the student volunteers. Sr Mary Therese CRSS, Honorary President of NHVS, was invited to unveil the plaque and to cut the ribbon.
Sr Mary Therese gave a thoughtful and moving address to the guests:
“Thank you for asking me to open this building for use by New Hall Voluntary Service and Chaplaincy. For NHVS, I am representing many members, past and present, of my own Community, of the New Hall staff and parents, of local friends and most importantly, of generations of students from New Hall and other local schools.
We all worked together to help people old or young, people with physical or mental disabilities, people from every walk of life who were lonely, housebound or in any need.
You, the students and NHVS leaders who are here today represent so many who brought life, laughter, interest and true caring to others, you learned so much and received so much in the doing. Your eyes were opened and your capacity to love and care grew. You learnt the hard lesson of commitment, a standby for the rest of your lives.
I pray now that this work continues and thrives. How proud we should be to pass on such a tradition. God Bless us all from the past, in the present and into the future.”
