Hawley House
Hawley is a vibrant, lively house for girls aged 8 to 16 years. We believe that a house that is run on a combination of mutual respect and trust is a happy house. Girls are able to thrive and reach their full potential.
Hawley is set in the centre of the school, so there is easy access for the boarder to use the school’s wonderful facilities. The house has three age-specific common rooms, which contain air hockey, pool tables, a Wii console and DVD players. The house boasts some impressive facilities such as: a kitchen with everything the girls could possibly require, four laundry rooms, bathrooms and showers at the end of each corridor and a tuck shop. This makes the house a very modern, comfortable boarding experience!
Boarding in Hawley offers individuals the chance to excel academically. We hope to achieve this through giving all boarders single study rooms and set times in which they must study. All house staff are also at hand to help with any study issues that may arise. Despite this studious atmosphere, we also like to ensure the girls have fun! We run weekly activities for the girls, such as cooking, swimming, gym training, pyjama parties, theatre trips and treasure hunts. Social hour has also been introduced as a means of helping and supervising the female and male boarders whilst they integrate in the evenings. This occurs within the boarding common room areas and comprises of events such as pool tournaments and MarioKart racing on the Wii! Within this programme, we also run termly events. An example of this is the Masquerade Ball at Hawley. Whilst these events are supported by staff, they are hosted by students in allocated year groups, who plan and create the event from start to finish. This is an enjoyable way for students to learn useful life skills.
We would like to think Hawley is a home from home. We seek to create a family atmosphere where every child is known and affirmed and feels an integral part of the Hawley community.
Housemistress - Mrs Libby Searle
Mrs Searle is a History graduate from ARU. Mrs Searle successfully ran the girls’ junior house before moving to Hawley House. She lives in Hawley House with her family and is available to the children in her care at all times. Having a family living in Hawley helps to give the boarding house a warm, friendly atmosphere.
Assistant Housemistress - Miss Rebecca Bailey
Miss Bailey studied Sport Psychology at Loughborough, where she obtained an MSc. She teaches both PE and Psychology. Miss Bailey also lives in Hawley and can be contacted at any time by boarders. She is a regular on the Hawley ‘pool circuit’ and is the current unbeaten pool champion!
Assistant Housemaster - Mr Kevin Searle
Mr Searle moved to Hawley from Earle House and finds the girls a totally different kettle of fish, a challenge he relishes! As a sports coach, Mr Searle can regularly be seen organising the girls for netball matches vs the Sixth Form or taking the girls on at football. This enthusiasm is a real asset to the house. Having a male role model is a positive addition to Hawley.
Assistant Housemistress - Mrs Cammidge
Mrs Cammidge studied English and History as an undergraduate at Kingston University followed by an MA in International Relations at Essex University. She has been an Assistant Housemistress in Hawley House for four years, during which time the girls have helped her to celebrate the key events in her life, engagement, wedding and birth of her daughter . She lives in the boarding House with her husband, daughter and cat, so is used to being woken up at any time if need, by the girls or her daughter...or the cat.
