The New Hall School Eco Code
Regarding saving energy:
1. We will aim to turn off all the lights in classrooms, boarding houses and other areas (excluding main school corridors and other crucial areas) whenever they are not needed
2. We will aim to turn off the water taps whenever not in use
3. We will aim to turn off the radiators in classrooms, boarding houses and other areas when windows are open
4. We will aim to turn off the monitors when logging off from the computers and turn off the computers in the later evening
5. We will aim to turn off all electrical appliances rather than leaving them on standby
6. We will aim to use energy efficient light bulbs wherever they can be used and gradually replace older, less efficient fittings
Regarding recycling:
1. We will aim to recycle all the recyclable paper, card, plastic bottles and aluminium cans in classrooms, boarding houses and other areas using the red recycling bins
2. We will aim to recycle all the recyclable paper in common rooms, offices and other areas using the big blue recycling bins named: ‘Paper Only’
3. We will aim to ensure that the whole school does not print out presentations, examination past papers and other working materials unless necessary
4. We will aim to use email communication with parents and within the school whenever possible
General Policies:
1. At mealtimes, we will only take as much food as needed
2. We will aim to use a school bus or share a lift with somebody else whenever possible
3. We will hold a student Eco Council meeting every fortnight and a staff Eco Council meeting twice a term
drawn up by student Eco Council
